ASO in German: how to set up your App Store page for Germany

German is the default language of three App Store storefronts, Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Below is who earns most in Germany, what people type into search there, how Apple converts prices into euros and francs and what to keep in mind for the name. Data as of October 16, 2026.

In short

The App Store shows a German page as the main one in Germany, Austria and Switzerland and also reads it in Luxembourg (Apple help, Oct 16, 2026). In Germany the $4.99 step costs €5.99 and the $9.99 step costs €9.99 (App Store Connect, Oct 16, 2026). Kostenlos (free) is in 18 of 90 search suggestions, but keep it out of the name, since Apple's guideline 2.3.7 forbids packing metadata with pricing information.

Where a German page shows

According to Apple's App Store localizations page (Oct 16, 2026), German is the default language of 3 App Store storefronts out of 175 (Austria, Germany, and Switzerland), and an additional language in one more (Luxembourg).

App Store Connect has a single German language, so Germany, Austria and Switzerland see the same page. In Switzerland the App Store also reads French and Italian.

According to AppTweak, Germany also indexes English (U.K.), so German words that do not fit the German field can go there (AppTweak). Keep in mind that, by Apple's table, English (U.K.) is the default language of 135 storefronts, and those words will sit on the English page in all of them.

How to write the page in German

  • Name up to 30 characters, subtitle the same (App Store Connect Help). German leaders use almost the whole limit, with 30 of 100 names at 28 to 30 characters.
  • Keywords, per Apple's help, up to 100 bytes, no names of other apps (Apple). No space is needed after a comma. AppTweak advises separating keywords with commas (AppTweak). Check joined and split forms of compound words with suggestions, since both show up in search.
  • Keep “kostenlos” out of the name and subtitle, since guideline 2.3.7 of the App Review Guidelines rules out pricing information in metadata.
  • If you sell in Switzerland, Apple's table says the App Store there also reads French and Italian. Keep words in those languages in their own localizations.

Where to start with a German page

  1. Choose a price knowing the euro conversion. $4.99 in Germany is €5.99, $9.99 is €9.99.
  2. Start the name with the brand and describe the task in German after a colon. 55 of the 100 leaders' names do this.
  3. Collect joined and split forms of your words and check each with App Store suggestions in Germany.
  4. Keep kostenlos out of the name, subtitle and screenshots. Apple treats such words as pricing information (guideline 2.3.7).

Appto writes the German name, subtitle and keywords with a live counter against Apple's limits, which matters when 30 of the 100 leaders use 28 to 30 characters. One German page for Germany, Austria and Switzerland sits next to your other languages, and Appto asks for your yes before writing to App Store Connect.
