An App Preview is a 15 to 30 second video on your App Store product page that plays before the screenshots and starts on its own with the sound off. You can upload up to three previews per display size and language, each up to 500 MB (App Store Connect Help, October 16, 2026).
What an App Preview is and where people see it
An App Preview is a short video captured from the screen of the app itself. It shows the main action, the interface and how people use the app. On iPhone, iPad, Mac and Apple TV the preview always comes before the screenshots, even if you reorder them in App Store Connect.
The video autoplays with the sound muted. If someone has turned off video autoplay in their App Store settings, they see the poster frame instead, a still from the video that you choose. Per Apple's asset guidance up to three previews can also appear in search results, so people often watch the video before they ever open the page.
A preview is optional. If its aspect ratio differs from your screenshots, the App Store moves it further down, into the A Closer Look section.
Where to upload a preview in App Store Connect
Previews live next to the screenshots on the version page. Open App Store Connect › Apps › your app › the iOS version, find Product Page Information and its App Previews and Screenshots tab. You drop the video into the same well as the screenshots, on the tab for the right device. Processing takes up to 24 hours.
The poster frame is set in Media Manager. Click View All Sizes in Media Manager, hold the pointer over the preview and choose Edit Poster Frame. Once approved, the poster frame can't be edited, and a new one means submitting a new version of the preview.

Preview resolutions for iPhone, iPad and Mac
A preview doesn't have to match the device screen. Most previews are screen recordings, so App Store Connect accepts a set of standard resolutions for each group of displays. Prepare the file at the accepted resolution, the device's native resolution isn't needed here.
| Displays | Accepted resolution |
|---|---|
| iPhone with Dynamic Island and Face ID, iPhone Duo | 886×1920 or 1920×886 |
| iPhone 6 Plus, 6s Plus, 7 Plus, 8 Plus | 1080×1920 or 1920×1080 |
| iPhone 6, 6s, 7, 8 and SE 2nd and 3rd generation | 750×1334 or 1334×750 |
| 13-inch, 11-inch and 10.5-inch iPad | 1200×1600 or 1600×1200 |
| 9.7-inch iPad | 900×1200 or 1200×900 |
| Mac and Apple TV | 1920×1080 |
| Apple Vision Pro | 3840×2160 |
The 3.5-inch iPhone doesn't support previews at all, and App Store apps for iMessage can't have them. If a language has no preview of its own, the App Store shows the one from the next closest language.

How to make a preview, step by step
- Write a 15 to 30 second storyboard. Give the opening seconds to the main action, Apple suggests leading with your strongest feature.
- Record the app's screen. Apple suggests QuickTime Player on a Mac with the iPhone connected, and iMovie or Final Cut Pro for editing.
- Add short captions. The preview starts muted, so the story has to work without sound.
- If the features you show need a purchase or a login, say so on screen or in the end frame.
- Export in H.264 at up to 30 frames per second and at the accepted resolution, for example 886×1920 for an iPhone with Dynamic Island. Check the length and the file size.
- Upload the preview, pick a poster frame and submit it for review with the version.
Appto makes the product page screenshots in every language and translates the captions on them, see App Store screenshots.
Common mistakes
- Hands and devices in the shot. Apple asks you to show only what happens inside the app, with no over-the-shoulder angles and no fingers on the screen. Under guideline 2.3.4 a preview is built only from screen captures of the app itself.
- Prices and dates. Apple advises leaving prices out, since they differ by country, and skipping seasons and dates that make the video age fast.
- Outside the length limits. A preview under 15 or over 30 seconds doesn't meet the spec, so check the length after editing.
- Native resolution instead of accepted. A large Dynamic Island iPhone has a 1320×2868 screen, yet its preview is accepted at 886×1920. Convert the file before you upload it.
- Hard cuts that overpromise. Apple suggests simple transitions like dissolves and fades, and transitions that don't suggest features the app doesn't have.
