Any chatbot can write questions for couples. What sells is the two-phone mechanic, a shared daily question and a partner's answer that opens after yours.
How much couples apps make
On October 16, 2026 Paired was number 55 in the US top grossing Lifestyle chart and Cozy Couples number 67. Couple Joy missed the top 100 that day, its highest position since Sep 24, 2026 was number 84. Love8 sits in Utilities, number 97.

The rating count says little about money here. Paired has 209,175 ratings, Love8 29 times fewer, and by our estimate their ranges overlap. My Love, a days-together counter with 1,043,214 ratings, is not in the grossing charts at all.
Newcomers break through
Cozy Couples launched on October 10, 2023 and has 46,038 ratings. Candle launched on March 19, 2025, has 11,582 ratings and makes $138K–554K a month by our estimate. For a newcomer, a year and a half is fast.
All the newcomers share one core. Every day the couple gets a question or a task, and both have to answer. They differ in tone, design and what shows on the Lock Screen.
How to link two phones
Without a server of your own, a couple can be linked through iCloud. CKShare in CloudKit opens a shared record zone to a second person by invitation, and a change subscription sends a silent push when the partner answers. Apple pays for iCloud storage within the quota.
The rule "your partner's answer opens after yours" has to live in the data. If both answers sit in the open, a curious partner will find them. Keep the answer locked until the second one arrives.
An invite code is simpler than a link. Six digits read out loud work even when the partner's second device has no iCloud and you need a fallback.
What goes into version 1
- Pairing by code. One phone shows a code, the other enters it, and the couple is linked.
- The daily question. One question for both, the partner's answer opens after yours.
- A Lock Screen widget. Days together and a sign that the partner already answered.
- The couple's archive. All answers by date, to reread.
- One subscription for two. One person buys, both get access.
How couples apps charge
Every app in the table is free to download (US App Store, October 16, 2026) and sells a subscription. Couples expect one of them to pay. Apple's Family Sharing for purchases covers this, and developers have been able to turn it on since iOS 14 in 2020 (StoreKit documentation). If the partners are not in one iCloud family, the second one gets access through the shared couple record.
Risks
- Breakups. You need a clear "unpair" button and a decision about the shared archive.
- Private answers. These are the most sensitive data on the phone. No ad trackers and a short policy.
- Lookalike names. Couple, love and relationship are in almost every name. The difference has to show in the first screenshot.
